I've gone to the dark side! - 09-25-2006, 07:22 PM

OK, I've done it! I bought my first MAC. Its an iMac 20" 2.16 ghz with 1GB RAM and 250GB hard drive.

I've got a lot to learn, but so far it's not too dificult. I've been told to download NeoOffice instead of MS, any comments?

I'm primarily using this for video editing and photo editing, so I decided to go the desktop route instead of a laptop. I've got a Dell that I have no problems with so I'm sticking to that for the laptop.

Any MAC suggestions for the newbie are appreciated.

I guess I've become a cliche', Nikon camera equipment and MAC computer. Sheesh!

First lesson: It's "Mac", not "MAC." Get that down then you'll be ready for advanced tutorage.

Congrats, now you can use preview to look at raw files and whatnot. Definatly not a dark side. If you notice, most Macs are white, not black. Oh, go get yourself some sweet widgets. The more the better.

i am assuming that its an intel based Mac and not a Power PC ..... i do not think photoshop is out for it yet (universal version). http://www.adobe.com/products/pdfs/intelmacsupport.pdf correct me if i am wrong here guys, but you can run photoshop under rosetta (but at a performance hit)??? so hold off in buying photoshop for your mac, until it comes out SOON. im a power pc owner so im not to sure. oh and it wouldnt be to bad to get another gig of ram cant hurt.

Yeah, I won't go from black to gray lenses.

I apologize if I offended anyone with my "MAC" comment. I guess if I want to be totally politcally correct I'd say "MacIntosh" or "Apple", right?

Why everytime I visit a web site a file appears on my desktop with the website name? I know there has to be a way to stop this.

What browser are you using? The only time I ever get what you are describing is if I try to save the page for offline browsing or something like that. I have never just had it happen on it's own and I have used just about every Mac browser out there at one time or another. I have been using Firefox and I like it a lot. I had been using Safari (Mac's own) becuase I liked the seamless synchronization between my three Mac's. I was able to get the Firefox extension that does the synching, albeit not as cleanly, but it does it.

I was joking. But it really is Mac, short for Macintosh. Of course, it doesn't really matter to me in the grand scheme of things.

Using Safari. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that I've missed or I'm hitting the wrong button...

Welcome, Welcome!! Just a little advice. Add more RAM. Don't get it through apple because it is so expensive. Hope you got a one Gig Card instead of 2-500 cards. I got another Gig of RAM for both my iMac and MacBook Pro through Crucial.com for almost 1/2 the price of apple.

Well David, I'm looking to see if I can replicate your issue. Unless you are right-clicking and accidentally downloading the page as a html document I can't see why it would happen.

I'll keep looking though...
