External Backup,,data Recovery

Any body here ever had to send there external drive to one of those recovery places??
My,,,,
"MY BOOK" essential edition, of 4 months old, rarely plugged in or used,, just took a crap,,10 yrs of saved,,and "ahem,,backed up"
info, and all my "raw" photos,,10,000, pics, are gone, its a western digital, 320 gig,
they told me at western digital, that the first section of the drive is gone,,
and it would need to be sent to a recovery place, Ive taken it to a computer guy, he tried everything,,dos,,ect, took it apart and tried to hook it uo as a normal drive,,its toast, cant see into it,,thats the first section,,great,,,

so if youve sent your in,,how much did it cost you,,,
so stupid, i should have done a double-backup,,

GAWD,,,there goes my book,,, and the saving for that 100mm lense,,

here is a good place used them before cost me $800 but 2 or 3 hundred of that was for expedite fees...

an external drive is no different than an internal, so they shouldn't cost any more or less.

forgot to mention if they recover you data or if you data is recoverable, they will ask you if you want it on another external drive is so they will charge you the cost of the new external drive to put all of your data on! to return to you.
