LR2 & CS4 System Recommendations Please - 12-03-2008, 04:04 PM

I'm looking for ideas for the CPU, motherboard, and memory. I don't need the latest and greatest (too expensive) and am not picky about brand (just good quality). I will not be gaming or doing video editing on this system. I don't mind overclocking, but it is not a must. I'll be using 64 bit Vista.

I have searched this part of the forum and will check out what y'all have said in the other posts.

Thanks, Steve

How much do you want to spend?

I would say get a q6600, at least 4GB of DD2, 1TB HD, and a decent non-intel board so you can oc your q6600.

Plus you being in Houston, you can get your stuff at Directron.

Whats the budget?

Athlon 9950, OCZ Ram ddr2 1066 4x2gb running Dual channel; MSI Platinum 9na2 board. 1 gb OpenGL video card fast as you can get for price point.

CS4 now uses as much ram as you can throw at it and the video card. The card must be OpenGL compliant and you must be on Vista 64 (winxp x64 doesn't support OpenGL)

Thanks so far for the advice, give me a couple of days to digest it.

My budget is hopefully less than $500 for CPU, motherboard, ram, and video card.

Also, dont know if it was mentioned above, but Directron is having a sale on 1 TB Western Digital drives this week only for something like $99.00. Wouldnt hurt to throw that into the mix.

I am running a q6600 (OC to 3.0Ghz) with 4 gigs G-Skill DDR 2 1066, with a GIGABYTE board. The reason I bought the GIGABYTE is that will also run DDR3 AND is has a built in RAID controller. Also don't forget that the new CS4 will untilize your video cards memory too for rendering, so might wanna get a 1 gig.

I like the q6600 because it is easilly overclocked and you don't get that much more performance with the more expensive chips.

Thanks Clint. Which Gigabyte board did you get?

I've got money in my pocket burning a hole! But, I'm going to wait until after the new year. I'll post what I pick out.
