I guess I will wait and see before I spend the money and time to upgrade. I would hate to go through all the hassle and still have the same video problems because of Windows.

With the 5D footage you probably will (right now) due to the AVC h.264 encoding...Other footage from a HDV or similar camcorder should work fine.

I don't have the time to try and make something work so I will use my Wifes Mac Book Pro. I guess I will put the money towards a new HD Video camera or an XL2 and quit trying to make the 5D do something it is not suited for.

The Core I7 is one of the best CPUs available for video editing. I'd look into getting into that or another high-performance architecture.

I wouldn't say it's not suited for it...I'd say that it's CODEC is not well suited for Windows with the current implementation. Granted a high performance i7 processor may do the trick. But bear in mind that you are using up significantly more CPU cycles than "should be" necessary to handle it...thus taking the CPU cycles away from other things. In other words, if they get the CODEC fixed, an i7 should SCREAM....until then, it may just be adequate.

Keeping my eyes pealed though for something... I may build me a new machine here soon... For now, I am either using Edius 5 and prerendering on the PC or...using my Macbook Pro.

Check out the panasonic hvx P2 series cameras. True hd, multiple frame rates, tapeless capture, and plays well with most nle editers for under $8,000.

BTW: I just priced out a custom built Core i7 system using parts from Mwave.com (where I get most all my components)...For an extra $79, they will assemble everything, install the OS and burn test it. Not bad for a pretty darn fast machine. My plans would be to just move all my external data drives to it and continue to use my 2 NAS appliances. I could have saved some money by going with a lesser video card and case as well as just building it myself and using the XP-Pro 64bit OS that I already own. But this case is very cool and I just hate to skimp on a highend system and would rather just have it show up ready to plug it...(this time around). One could easily save themselves $300 on a very similar config if they wanted to build it themselves and supply their own OS/video card...

This config is in my shopping cart. I need to sleep on it a couple of days before deciding. Would be a nice last tax write off if I purchased tomorrow though. Hehe

Here were the specs:

That is a serious machine. I think I am going to wait and not rush into it. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

What I was trying to say is that the 5D MKII is not a regular video camera and is best suited for certain types of video whereas a video camera is much more versatile. Instead of upgrading my PC to try and process some crappy video I took is probably not the smartest thing to do. I am going to get an HD video camera. I thought it would be nice to have a camera that would use my lenses but it is not working out like I planned. Thanks for the tips you have been a huge help.

Works out pretty good until something better comes along.
That is what I am running into so thanks for the input.

The quad core is the unbeatable best for the $. Intel has leaped AMD big time and for the price, under 300. It is the deal of the century!

I know this is a bit more than you are looking to spend, but is the basis for the machine I just built.
