Thank you guys, I had no idea I had so many reply's. I never got an email saying I had reply's. I will look into it. I was looking at the imac and I found out that the 24'' gives a better display, but I want to be able to upgrade with out taking it to the store so I may go with the mac pro. I am just going to wait and see if they come out with an update version of the Mac Pro desktop. :-)

I recommend the 24" iMac. If you are not needing to be highly portable with all your editing needs, you can get this with plenty of umph, then get a little netbook with a USB port for downloading in the field and shooting tethered if needed.

All in all, you can get away with a great setup for likely under $2,000.

Thanks photostein I will look into the imac 24, I hope they come up with an udate on it or on the mac pro. It is getting kind of hard waiting for the new update in the desktop models, but I know it will be worth it.

the updates should come out very soon. Either way it should be good for you because you will either be able to get the latest and greatest or hopefully find a good deal on the "older" model. Also if you go with the older model and you are looking at the iMacs I may suggest checking out the apple refurb units. You still get the warranty of new but can typically save a few hundred dollars.

Sure thing.

Additionally, are you a NAPP member?

If not, you can join for $99 a year and usually get well over $99 in savings off a new item purchase.

A typical example is the savings off a Jan 09 17" MBPro (Apple ain't released 'em yet) which is base model priced at $2,799. With a NAPP discount, you get them for $2,575; therefore, you can get a NAPP membership for $99 and still save $125 off a new one. If you buy additional options, etc..., then your savings are just incremental because the cost of the NAPP membership is still $99 no matter how much Apple stuff you buy.

Additionally, if you are in to photography, by some weird chance, all the BH Photo free 3 day UPS shipping will pay for itself easily within a year.

Also, the discount is all the time, not just a one time offer.

This is the best deal out there that I have found.

The new Mac Pro is out. 8-core Xeon is extremely powerful. If you can afford it and you want a desktop, not a notebook, there is no comparison. They designed this machine for upgrading that almost anyone can do themselves. The 8-core can hold up to 32GB ram, 4TB HD, Video upgrades, etc. For a photographer, and videography, I don't believe anything is too powerful. When you can have four 1 TB drives to set up as mirrors for each other and have 32 GB RAM to run your programs, add a 30" monitor to it and you have the ultimate darkroom.

This may sound like boys and their toys, or bigger is better, but a fast pp system to get the job done quickly and to view as much detail as you want or need will only benefit you as a pro.

I just wish I could get all that in a portable light weight system so I could have this any where I went.

Well I got the Mac Pro, base model. I am learning the OP system and I am liking it. I do miss some programs, that I had in windows, but I will just istall windows 7 when it comes out. I already added a second HD 1TB, and I am thinking of getting the 24" LED monitor, but will see. I really needed a new computer, I had been waiting for the new mac pros to come out since November 2008. Well thank you all for helping me make a decicion.
