Cocktail does not run any processes in the BG so consumes no additional resources save some disk space.

One thing to consider is that folks often switch to the Mac so they don't need to remember to type "sudo...." and other command lines. I've now been an Apple user for 5 years and honestly find it so much easier to just let go of my old Windows (and DOS, and CPM, and UNIX, and Linux, and...) ways and heed the Apple mantra: "Think Simple".

I bought a Mac 5 years ago so that I could embrace my old ways...Solaris, Linux, etc.

Different folks for different strokes.

I'm a PC (primarily Windows) IT Manager, with...oh...15 yrs experience.
I picked up my first mac (new macbook) the first week of December.

15 years of PC, I was sold on mac in about 3 weeks.
holy crap, what's wrong with the PC industry? innovation is key with apple

Thanks for the help guys, and also for the congrats!
Looks like a pretty difficult procedure right now given my novice status with the mac. I'll just leave it be for now and if it really annoys me, I'll change it later.
I've read about maintenance for macs, but I'm going to have to look into it further. I hope it doesn't get like a PC where more data exponentially jacks up the system causing more conflicts and hangs...

I've had it for like 2 days now, and I'm sooooooo in love with the MBP. I hold it close at night while I'm sleeping. If you leave it on, it is a good source of warmth for these cold Houston winter nights... The aluminum feels good on my skin...
No, actually I've only spent a little time with it as I've been busy. But I do love it.

Anybody use those Invisible Shields clear skins on theirs? I'd like to protect it, but I don't like the shiny plastic look it adds. I like the matte aluminum.
Also, the monitor is so much better than my old Toshiba. Colors are more vibrant, photos look awesome. Photoshop is so going to get p0wn3d by this mac now...

Sam... I will never look at you the same way the next time I see you. hahaha

Hey guess what, I also just got a new MBP a few days ago! So I feel pretty much the same way you do.

....minus the sleeping with it. (actually that's a lie, I do sleep with it)

Abreum, no way dude! Did you get the new gen or previous gen? I got the previous gen, I wanted a matte screen and a better price...
I actually have a late '07/early '08 Penryn 2.4 GHz model I'm selling. I bought them both within a couple of days of each other. I'm keeping the faster/later 2.5 GHz model.
I hope to get a 24" display for it after a little bit.
Give me a call and let me know what you've been up to. Lets set up a time for me to check out that studio!

17" MBP early '09s haven't shipped yet. They are delayed at least 2 weeks as of yesterday.

Sam, got the new next gen 15 inch MacBook Pro, top of the line with 4GB of ram, etc.

I gotta call you, I'm jotting it down in my "to-do" book!

17" next gen is not out but I'm happy and sticking with this model.
I'll sell you my 24" monitor if apple can just make the friggin' 30" monitor already! (next gen monitor, OLED? is that the correct abbreviation)

Yeah, there is a world of frustration in amidst the Mac forums about the delay of the 17" nxt gen not shipping this week as many had been told. The good thing is that many are getting dollars dropped off their price and upgraded to faster shipping as concessions. I got faster shipping as well.

They are set to ship on the 19th of Feb at the earliest now. I am wondering how many therapists will have a boon in February from all the overreaction to the delays and people needing to "talk to someone" about it all.

Crazy stuff.

I'm going to start calling you the 'one upper' game killer...Remember those commercials/magazine ads from Axe?
But that's cool dude.
I don't think I'm going to spring for the Apple monitor, unless I hear better things about it. I've read that they're the same as alot of cheaper monitors because they use the same screen and such, just encased in aluminum with connections on it and an apple on the back, which by default raises the price by 150%...
There's a discussion or two over at macrumors.com about them.

I think LED"s are the thing of the future. We'll start seeing more LED Monitors in larger sizes. It's only a matter of time.
