My desktop Apple iMac is six years old. It has some software issues that would take a little dough to fix, but still works like a champ.

Not this mac user.
Then again, I use it professionally every day and after a couple years max the technology has moved along so fast and the software has gotten more complicated that I need a faster machine.
But recently it's starting to feel like it is plateauing and my current machine was as powerful as I could get at the time and I have 11gb of ram so hopefully this one will last longer.

I think I'm going to try to swap it for a 17" Matte and pay the difference...I wonder if they'd let me do that given their 14-day return policy...

I was going to suggest you try that but I wasn't sure you want a 17 inch. I think glossy is annoying. I have a 17" but the previous model. I love it. It is big but it's thin design allows you to put it into a reasonably sized backpack unlike a Dell 17" XPS.

Well I made a run by the Apple store today...I explained to them what I wanted to do. (swap my 15" Uni for a 17" Uni Matte) The guy gos to the back to "check and see if they can do that", and after about 5-10 minutes he comes back and is like, "yeah, we can do that, but the difference you would have to pay would be what you paid for the first computer you had..."
The difference would be over $1k to upgrade.

I totally understand since that was the original price I paid, but the computer that is now in my possession is going for around $2500 or so brand new, and given it's only a week old, I thought maybe they would trade in based on the value of the computer, and not based on what was originally paid.

I suppose if I wanted to bad enough, I could sell this thing via Cragslist and then buy a 17" with the money I made off of it and just add a few hundred. I don't want to go through all that trouble, plus I kind of like my 15" glossy. The colors really pop and the blacks are nice and deep.
And since I plan on getting an external monitor, I'll throw the few hundred I was going to spend on the 2" upgrade into a nice-ish monitor.

On a side note, I received my Moshi palm-guard and Clear-Guard yesterday. I have in place the clear guard (keyboard cover) and it's a little weird. Hopefully with use it'll get better. I have yet to install the palm guard, but I'll post about it when I do.

I'm still happy with Apple's customer service. I love my mac.
