i second the home server setup - just bought one and got it set up. also smugmug is great for the jpg storage - can't beat the combination. while i still back up the raws to dvd and keep them on a hd, having an offsite backup for jpgs is peace of mind.

One thing people fail to realize about CD's and DVD backups is they may not be as long term as you think they are. If you value your photos or any files for that matter DO NOT rely on this media as a sole method for backups. There have been tests done which show how these forms of media are at times not lasting more than 3 or 5 years.

the supposed fungus tests have been disproved numerous times. The practical longevity of optical media is well over 10-15 years based on later tests. Probably longer.

Drobo- If they gave non-owners access to their forum you might reconsider. I use mine as a Time Capsule. I use Firewire to connect it, not their ethernet share thing (I have it but it sucks).

Doesn't anyone keyword (he said from a lofty perch held up by the fact that he's only keyworded about 10% of his Raw files). Keywords kick butt when it comes to finding a file...

PS- I've been thinking about using 5-1/4 floppies... they look cool, have killer labels on them, are very retro, and stack neatly... I need to cypher how many 512k's there are in a gigabyte...
