is all i'm getting this morning on my desktop. i;m pretty sure this means there is something wrong with the ram - otherwise, if it were hard drive - it would get past this point, right?

it sounds like you are stuck in the BIOS boot up sequence, where it goes and checks the memory. this would be well before the hard drive comes into play.

you might try to remove and re-seat the memory DIMMs on the motherboard; or better yet, put them in one at a time and try to boot and see if you can identify a faulty one.

the second thing i would try if the memory thing doesn't work is to clear out the CMOS... maybe something got messed up in the BIOS settings.

Another thing is if you have more than one memory module remove one see what happens and if its the same remove the other one and put the first one back

thanks dave - this is a long road she's gone down. i have not posted publicly before this - but she suffered a massive aneurism thursday a week ago. she was not expected to live - had surgery, huge portion of left frontal lobe removed - the language center. she took a little longer than they thought to come out of the coma...is staring down pneumonia and an abnormal heart rythm, but was able to actually get a sentence out this morning and appeared bright and happy. there's not much beyond that of a 3-4 year old left at this point, but progress is being made~!!!
