it sounds like you are stuck in the BIOS boot up sequence, where it goes and checks the memory. this would be well before the hard drive comes into play.
you might try to remove and re-seat the memory DIMMs on the motherboard; or better yet, put them in one at a time and try to boot and see if you can identify a faulty one.
the second thing i would try if the memory thing doesn't work is to clear out the CMOS... maybe something got messed up in the BIOS settings. |
