Hard drive swap - 03-07-2009, 11:54 PM

Just removed a 160gb Maxtor and replaced it with a 1TB Western Digital Black Caviar. System wouldn't recognize the new hard drive at first. It was giving a BIOS not installed error and device not intiated. Turned out that my MB doesn't like SATA II drives. I added a jumper to the hard drive (after locating the info on the net) to make it behave like a SATA I drive. Once that was done the system recognized the drive and XP let me intiate the drive properly. Once I'm satisfied that everything in my system is back to normal, I'll swap out a 120gb drive with another 1TB WD Black Caviar and this time I don't expect to have any issues.

The nicest part of having these drives configured as data drives is I'll be able to pull them out and drop them into a new system as data drives whenever I finally build that new system.
