Blah. That's annoying. I just assumed it was because I switched to purely RAW and a bigger CF card around the same time as buying my new comp. Had no idea it was due to a built in reader. I've had my USB reader sitting next to my comp ever since.

Unfortunately, I am not a real fan of how the express slots work. Pretty easy to accidentally pull it out. Regardless, I am happy with it.

BTW: 4GB taking 20min just to copy is way too long unless you have a very slow reader and/or card. Are you just copying or "importing" with an app? Importing with things like Lightroom from CF cards is somewhat slower than copying to HD, then importing from there.

Sorry to derail the thread.

$17k!!! NO THANK YOU. I think I'll build a server farm of 10 desktop machines instead. :)
Basically what I do is browse through my images in DPP, convert the ones I need into a new folder then just copy/paste the remaining images into an "image dump" folder. Usually if a 4GB card is completely full it seems to be around half an hour. I always just leave it running before I leave to go somewhere.

you can add that

I hope that the Thinkpad would support USB 3. With USB3 then everyone can stop crying about download times from their CF...

* SuperSpeed USB has a 5 Gbps signaling rate offering 10x performance increase over Hi-Speed USB.
* SuperSpeed USB is a Sync-N-Go technology that minimizes user wait-time.
* SuperSpeed USB will provide Optimized Power Efficiency. No device polling and lower active and idle power requirements.
* SuperSpeed USB is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Devices interoperate with USB 2.0 platforms. Hosts support USB 2.0 legacy devices.

I wasn't at all impressed by the built-in digitizer, but yes I am impressed by the built-in color calibration function. This makes everything more convenient.

But I guess MacBook/Pro's can do just well with a third party calibration tool. And come to think about it, how often do u calibrate your screen?

Exactly, so how much difference it would make by using a built-in one rather than an external one

How does this compare to Firewire speedwise? I just got the slower version (400) of firewire (card in my desktop and reader) and it is really fast compared to using my USB 2.0 port.

Nevermind. I just googled it and USB 3.0 will be a heck of a lot faster than Firewire 800.

MAC is not as fast as people said compare to other good laptops with dedicated graphic cards. I've used many Macbooks Pro and they didn't give me "Fast feeling". I prefer Dell Studio XPS 16. More cheaper, more powerful.

I'm running Vista 64 and love it, but #1 above is a must.
