XP SP 3 and LAN problems? - 04-08-2009, 04:26 PM

I have updated to xp Service Pack 3 and now I think I wish I hadn't.

I can no longer see the other workgroup computers on my wired LAN. I know that it is connected because I can print to a network printer on another machine that is the server. But I can not add a printer on the same server to my machine with the sp3.

I try to view the workgroup computers and I get message workgroup not visible and I may not have permisson.

Any ideas to help???

Can I just go into add/remove programs and remove SP 3 and go back to the way it was before? I had SP 2 installed.

Any help is appreciated.

If you have System Restore turned on, I'm pretty sure you can revert to a pre-SP3 condition. I say "pretty sure" because I don't know if SP3 is a done deal once installed.

Did you upgrade from SP1? If so you may want to check your firewall settings. With SP2 there were major changes with the way Windows firewall behaves. You can find Firewall settings in control Panel - check Advanced Tab and make sure your connection is included.

I was able to remove sp3 through the remove programs, and the system went back to sp2.

I restarted the machine, reset the LAN and all is well again.

Thanks for all the help.
