BenQ 24 Monitor and Calibration? - 04-10-2009, 03:41 AM

Hey all -

I've got a 24inch BENQ monitor and use an Eye One Display 2 calibration system to *try* to get it right -

I'm having problems with either the the set gamma or brightness of the LCD, with photos I edit looking fine on the LCD, then printing out probably 10-15 percent darker and less "contrasty" than how they look in Lightroom. I'm exporting them to SRGB, but have to admit they look different on the screen as they do printed -

I'm thinking maybe bump down the recommended Gamma (it says 2.1) a bit to see if that helps my screen proofing match my output?

Anyone else have similar issues? suggestions?

Daylon

Far too many unknowns to give a definitive answer. What settings are you using to print in what application?

I'm not printing myself, this is strictly output to display either on the web, or sent to a lab for printing -

Exporting from Lightroom as sRGB, 300dpi for printing - usually I export to Photoshop and resave / resize at 80dpi and 900pixels on the long edge for uploading.

Looks fine in lightroom, but once exported and viewed on the web or printed as is, they are noticeably darker... so i'm thinking gamma reduction during calibration?

I'll assume they were shot and worked in AdobeRGB. Once converted to sRGB there will be a color shift unless the application or machine is colorspace aware. This may cause the darker image you are seeing. I believe you can proof the appearance in PS. I don't know about LR's capabilities to proof the appearance. The brief explanation on proofing I got when at Photoshop World has long since ceased to exist in my grey matter. How about one of the colorspace gurus jumping in here.
