Creativity Exercise #19: Golden Hour(s)

Finally, a new exercise. Sorry for the long delay, but I had some personal stuff last month that kept me away from the forum and photography.

Anyway, the Golden Hours, as many of you know, is a special time of day when the outside light is absolutely gorgeous to shoot in. There are actually 2 Golden Hours a day: The hour just before Sunrise and the hour just after sunset.

This is a great time of year to go exploit this fantastic light, since the air if crisp and the time (fall back) has changed.

Your mission this month is to go out and enjoy these Golden Hours. so try shooting some sunsets or sunrises, you'll be surprised at the colors in the sky. The light also make for great outdoor portraits (w/ a little fill flash). Landscapes and cityscape are also wonderful subject during this time of day.

Metering is easy too, just meter off the sky and adjust from there. Go out and have fun.

**Normally I request only basic photo editing, but this time you can do whatever editing you want.

**Each participant can post as many shots as they like, but try not to go crazy.

Next Exercise: 12-01-2006

What good timing. I'm on a business trip and stopped this am on the way to the location to snap a few shots in a foggy cemetary on the side of the road. I processed them on my laptop (uncalibrated), so I have no idea what they look like, but hopefully they are fairly decent.

I cropped out some of the dark tree on this one...

I used fill flash on this one to light up the cross.

before sundown, the glow over this hill made me stop on the way home.
With the sun hidden by the hill, I wonder if the glow
is the reflection off what's left of Lake Travis!

I don't know if this qualifies because it's not a shot of the sky. For those of you who have done Tiger Shoot you know that we're there as soon as the sun comes up. This was shot during one of those "golden hours" in the morning, hence the golden glow behind Sheba.

Somehow or another I just knew that shot would show up here. Awesome!

BTW - Debbi and I are going back there either Monday or Tuesday. :)
