Heading to the IRL race tomorrow night. Was thinking about bringing a 300 f/2.8 with my 40D. Do any of you racing guys know if that is OK with the track if I bring it in a backpack or do they frown on that up there? Also, I have Pit Upper seats. Are you allowed to walk down to the bottom and stand near the fence for a short time to shoot?

Last time I went I brought my whole bag, 2 cameras two lenses and all the extras. I was in the pit areas too and was able to get near the track by the tunnel. the only time I was sent packing was when I went to the fence in the grand stands, I stayed behind the yellow line but was told to leave after about 1 minute of shooting. (after the crash where the car flew up into the fence last race I am glad they moved me back too)

i'll be there as well. i don't have a 2.8 lens, but was going to see if there was enough light during the race to use my 80-400 5.6 lens. anyone know if the track lighting is enough for a f/5.6 at about 400 iso or so? i don't really like going above iso400 on my d80 because it gets a little noisy.

i'm also planning on getting there early (got those free marlboro tickets) to try to get the 'pit' passes to get some inside shots. only the first 1500 get those passes though :/
