Someplace with color - 06-23-2009, 12:51 AM

I just had a lady contact me about shooting some portraits for her grandkids. She wants a location with a lot of color. Unfortunately, I'm coming up blank. Most of my go-to places for fields of flowers are no longer in bloom.

Anybody know of a place in DFW that might work as an alternative idea?

I like to shoot my kids at playgrounds—the brightly-colored, plastic kind.... Celebration Park, in Allen, has the biggest variety of colors—it's HUGE!

Are you wanting color in general, or floral color?

Well I know she specifically asked for floral color, however if that's not available, I'd like to be able to offer her some solutions. The playground idea is a great one.

Dallas Arboretum? That's my default place to shoot.

Wildflowers are gone this time of year, so it's going to probably have to be somewhere like the Arboretum that is cultivated, irrigated and in some parts shaded. That's a good spot because there is a more liberal photography policy (price of admission for all entering) vs. places that charge a specific fee for for-profit photos (Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, Grapevine Botanic Gardens).

You know, that might not be a bad idea. There's an organic garden center down the road that has gorgeous landscaping. Wonder if they'd allow me in to shoot...
