Senior Photo locations? - 10-25-2005, 04:01 PM

I am being asked to do senior photos for a friend. (specifically for her daughter) (I generally take photos of much younger children.)

Can someone suggest some good locations in North East Dallas? (ie, Allen, McKinney, Plano, Frisco, Garland, Richardson)

So far I have thought of:
- Dallas Arboretum
- Train tracks around Allen, TX
- Allen, TX Chamber of Commerce (in an old train car)
- Porch of old house
- Park in Plano next to Plano Dart station (gazebo, pond)
- Pier in Allen Park next to Kroger
- Gazebo in Allen Park next to Kroger

Thanks in advance,

Alan

Cool Senior locations - 10-27-2005, 01:20 PM

Here's a few places you might consider:

Canyon Creek waterfalls in Richardson

Waterfalls on west side of Preston Rd, between Park & Spring Crk

Dart rail station in Plano

There's lots of bike trails on east side of 75 in Plano.

There's some nice parks with really nice backgrounds around CCCC east of 75 on Spring crk.

Nice parks in McKinney too. The Collin Cty youth park in NW McKinney has some nice areas around it as well.

I want to try to obtain permission to use some of the old warehouse's in McKinney ... with the broken windows, I think the lighting and atmosphere would make for some interesting portraits.

good luck.

Has anyone ever shot over in those green belt/water areas in west Plano? After you get past the “No Trespassing” signs there are some wonderful locations. During the 2002 elections I was handing out early voting flyers in this area. In the Willow Bend section I was almost run over by a lady pulling in to her drive way. I pulled out one of the flyers to give to her only to have her go off on me about NO SOLICITING was aloud and that I was bothering her dog. Sense I wasn’t selling anything and was just giving out public info I didn’t pay her too attention and moved on. Then the security guard came by followed by the Plano PD. They both said I wasn’t doing anything wrong but that I might need to take my partner and move on to another neighborhood. It’s a shame that some of the best dove hunting fields in Plano had to be developed for some of the snottiest people. Don’t get me wrong. Just across the road in the Glenn Eagle area are some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet.

Alan -

Another location I just found at lunch today ...

Go inside the front door at the furniture store Stacy's off of McDermitt in Allen (the old K-mart store), there is a little water fountain in front of an old "country store" looking type store front. The 'natural' light coming in from the entrance, and possibly your "Senior" sitting on the fountain edge, would make for a nice portrait depending on how you set it up.

My favorite place is on StoneBridge Drive between Virginia and Highway 380. It is just south of 380 on the west side of the road. There is a lake, bordered by a grassy area with trees and a stone building [cant think of a better term] with steps leading up to it. Great place for sunset shots looking down into the lake.

That makes for several additional good suggestions that I hadn't thought of.

I live VERY close to Stacy's. I'll have to head over there this weekend. I wonder if I would need to get permission first?

I'm not sure, but I think it will be okay and you won't draw too much attention unless you pull out studio lights, or your model is in a bikini, I'm sure "he" would look funny anyway ... sorry, couldn't resist.

Good luck.

I'm kind of looking for the same thing, except I'm doing Christmas family portraits. I've got several shoots in mid-November. Does anyone know of any festive locations in Frisco or anywhere that would pass as somewhat fall/festive? Thanks for your help!

The railway museum and old houses in downtown Garland. Roach feed store is also a pretty neat place.
