The Heard Nature Sanctuary - 07-31-2009, 01:11 PM

I know the sanctuary "closes" at 5, but does anyone know if I purchase a ticket to get in, can I stay past 5 - until dusk when light is much better?

Also, is there a rookery on one of the trails? Any good birding this time of year?

Thanks.

They have gates to the parking lot, so I would imagine they lock them up at closing time.

I've been to Heard several times for birds. Let just says i never got anything out of it but there's plenty of bugs if you like Macro.

Yes, there was a rookery couple year ago and that was the last time i visited Heard, again... nothing came out of the rookery. But they never returned the next year. It has more or less to do with pool water level. The best is to call. If they had built a platform, and rookery is flourish, i would go there every morning if i could. :)

A heron rookery is also near by, judging by the great heron flight-by with sticks but it's deep inside and is inaccessible.
