New lion cubs at FW Zoo - 10-27-2005, 07:45 PM

Fort Worth Zoo has some new additions. 4 new lion cubs (3 girls, 1 boy).

If you get a chance, go see them. Get there around 12:30pm and plan on staying until at least 2pm and you'll get your best shot at them.

Here's all four hanging out:

Here's a pair playing around:

A very fun experience.

I wish, man.... I can't wait to see them! My mom said she'd make the trip to the Ft. Worth Zoo with me, isn't that sweet? She wants to see the babies, too!

And.... *Beautiful* photos BTW!

Hey Jake,

Yep, I just got the 200-400VR back from Nikon service and needed something to test it on. Only thing is I wish I'd brought the TC. Next time...

Joe
Very nice shots. Mine suffered a lot from high cropping factor. I can't wait to get my 2X converter and then get a little closer.

Nice shots , great glass...

Great shots Joe, I'm definitely going to have to try to get up to the DFW area soon and check out that zoo.

So why was your 200-400 in the shop? Also which TC(s) do you have/use with it? I've only tried the TC-14 so far and got decent results, haven't tried the TC-17 yet.

LOL... I feel *exactly* the same way. I love the Ft. Worth Zoo and the large exhibits are nice, but they make you need more reach! 200 is my max, also. Next time I go I might rent a TC.

Those are great Joe. Thanks for sharing.

About time to get back over there now since the heat left the area. I don't have that great a glass either unless my 28-75 will reach out there. Really long reach huh? Probably just have to get lucky with the old 75-300 EF. Be fun trying though!

Don't despair all, that first shot was taken at 240mm so you'll be fine with your 200's. The second shot was a 400mm cropped.

And my 200-400 was in the shop because it stopped communicating with the camera. I'm still not sure why but I was shooting a road race with David B., put it on the camera and nothing. No response at all, the aperture was stuck at "0" and there was nothing I could do that wouldn't return a totally black image.

I've requested a detailed report from Nikon which they are sending but basically it's now $400 bones later I have it back and working perfectly. They still have my 17-55mm and that one is going on 3 weeks now...

As for the TC's, I've only tried the 200-400 on a TC14. The TC20 is too soft (tried a friends) but never with a TC17.

Those are greeaat! Thanks for sharing. I'm relieved to hear the first shot was 240mm. I only have a 200mm too.

I was just going to go to the dallas zoo, but after seeing this, I have to go here! They are so flippin' cute!
