I am so thrilled that a good friend is returning from Afghanistan next week. I want to do some shots of him in uniform. Where is a completely awesome place to do this? Any suggestions?

There's a memorial wall up in Dallas, right?

As a Viet Vet I'd shy away from the memorial wall unless that's his first choice.
It's depressing.

Something upbeat and very patriotic.

A backlighted shot of him in uniform with a huge American flag flapping in the background. Like the kind you used find at car dealers, when there were any.

I'd vote for a simple background and good light that will let you focus on him. Too much star-spangledness can end up being cheesey. Plus, he probably had a formal military portrait made, as most servicemen and women do (if it's not required, it's at least popular).

There used to be a self-storage place near me that had a tank out front. The biz is still open but the tank is gone, unfortunately!
