New Stadium Photography Rules - 09-04-2009, 01:29 PM

So I just had a family request to go and take family pics outside the new stadium... apparently there is pillars with players names on it or something? Anyhoo I looked all through the cowboys website and couldn't find anything that said that wasn't allowed but thought I'd check here and see if anyone knew if that would be ok. I'd hate to get in trouble!!

I would call the stadium office and ask.

Duh huh! I just called and for everyone's knowledge to the customer service line. Told the guy I was a photographer and a family requested family shots in the parking lot of the stadium in their cowboy gear etc. He said he knew of no rule that would be broken because all still cameras are allowed per the rules. So I guess for now they have no rules against it! :)

I went to the stadium during their open house, and they were very camera friendly during that event.

There are rules against cameras with changeable lenses INSIDE the stadium as far as ticketholders in the stands during a regular game/performance/event. But good to know about the outside. Did you get his name? If security hassles you anyway, you could say *whoever* said it was OK. I imagine *whoever* doesn't know everything, so I hope he's right!

Was it that way at Texas Stadium as well? If so, nobody ever gave me a second look when I entered with my bag of two lenses.

Don't know about Texas Stadium, but the new rules at Cowboys Stadium were discussed somewhere on the thread (possibly in the sports area). There are all kinds of differences in the house that Jerry built!

Thought I'd revisit this because of the high school playoffs set there for tomorrow (Nov. 14, 2009). My family and I might go to a game or part of one, and all I care about are photos of them rather than anything on the field. Here are the rules on cameras I found here:

"Compact Cameras (still only) are permitted inside Cowboys Stadium as long as their use does not interfere with the game or other guests' enjoyment of the event. Tripods, monopods and cameras with lens' longer than 3" (detachable or non-detachable) will NOT be permitted into Cowboys Stadium. Video cameras and video recording of events at Cowboys Stadium is prohibited."

Those are the published rules. I plan to take something like my old 20D with a 17-40 lens (maybe sans hood), which is pretty close to the limit.

It is OK to take cameras in for the HS games. I took in my 70-200 last weekend and there was no issue.

I was there for part of Saturday, and you're right that security was lax. We decided to just take my wife's point-and-shoot. With the excellent lighting conditions in early afternoon (and prob. all the time), we got the shots we wanted.

It is ok to take a pro camera and not too long lens into the stadium. They said the lens can't be too long, but no idea about the exact length. I took my 1d2, 200mm f2.8L(black) in w/o any problem during game vs. Carolina. I did same in world soccer challenge as well.

In game vs. Panthers, I sat too high, here are couple of pics:

1. large screen

2. Jerry's new invention, cage dancer

3. Cowboys' fans

They may be new to football stadiums but cage dancers aren't new.
