Studio Share - 09-22-2009, 10:54 AM

Ok so I am thinking about possibly sharing studio space with other wedding professionals. I have a studio right now and my lease isn't up for a few more months but that gives me time to look around and get all the details. I thought I would check and see if there would be anyone interested in a setup like this. I would want to stay in the McKinney/Plano/Frisco area. Obviously depending on the space would be how many people but I would share with 1 other photographer, and then everyone else be some other wedding professional. It would be a space that has a common area and then offices so that everyone has their own "space" to meet with clients and work and what not. The sign outside would be generic saying something like "Wedding Professionals" and advertising within the common area would be very limited for everyone. It would give people space to meet with clients, to network with other professionals, and might even be a way to get other clients. I rarely ever shoot in studio so I would mostly be needing the space for clients to come visit and occasionally set up studio background and lights. Other vendors might be people like Videographers, DJ, Planners, Make-up artists and other vendors who basically only need some office space.

I am thinking about having a space big enough to house around 6 vendors. I am not sure of all the details but I wanted to know if there would be people interested in a setup like this. I would like to keep the rent affordable as well and I think this would be a way to do this. As I said I am on a lease for like 4 more months so this will happen next year (as early as Jan) but I would like to get the ball rolling now so that the details can get worked out and I have vendors lined up.

I'm interested if it's in McKinney, possibly in Frisco, too.

Well the location wouldn't be picked out till closer to the time and I have a good idea of how many people are interested and able to find a space. I do want to stay in the north area but do not want to rule out Allen/Plano just in case they have some good space that would work for this. Right now it is faster for me to drive down 75 to Plano then to go down 121 to Frisco but as soon as they get 121 done that may change. I love downtown Plano (around 15th St and Hwy 5). It is more about finding the space though which wont happen till around Dec/Jan.

Sounds good, and I understand about location. Old Plano is def. cool, around 15th st. Old McKinney is cool, too, plus they have Adriatica. Right now, there prices seem to be very reasonable, although it might be better to have something older. Above the square in downtown McKinney is very cool.

Yes, I will be looking at all of those areas. Also, if you know anyone other professionals in the wedding industry that might be interested let me know or give them my info. I have plenty of time to look but I want a good krew! I think having col people in the same office will motivate me to get out of my lazy clothes and go to work rather then working from home all alone. I have to say that is what I hate the most. I am such an outgoing person not having people to talk to drives me a bit loco.

Lol, I understand that! I think it's a great idea. I will keep my eye open for vendors.

I'm interested. We just finished a studio at our house but it's for maternity and babies. Not sure about meeting clients here. I knew someone that was going to get a studio/ mostly meeting area and rent it be the session or by meeting but it fell through.

Alright, so it is about that time for me to move out of my current studio. I have to be out in 6 weeks which gives me time to look for vendors and spaces. I was going to see if there is anyone interested in sharing space. I am looking to stay in the McKinney/Allen/Plano area. I have found a few spaces that might work that are affordable. I am looking to keep rent around $300-$500 per photographer. OR if you know any wedding vendors that might like a deal like this please send them my way.

Thanks! Sure...it is $12 sq ft. The studio is 1,100 sq ft. Not big by any means but perfect for what I will use it for.

I will also be looking for someone that wants to share a bit of the space but haven't worked out the details. If anyone is interested let me know and we can talk about it.
