I'm think about attending the ICE sculpture exhibit at the Gaylord Texan. The exhibit area is kept at a tempurature of 9 degrees.

Does anybody have any experience or knowledge to share with working with a digital SLR camera in this kind of conditions?

i had a friend of mine that used to shoot stuff for the oil CO's in Alaska. Now granted it was -35 or colder he would buy up 4 or 5 nikon fm's and have the lube stripped from the grears and then shoot. It was so cold that the lube would freeze. Now the cameras are trashed after a few rolls but with 4 or 5 bodies you can shoot enough film to get the job done.

I have shot at 0 with my 20d and didnt really notice much of a change.

I've shot at -36 without any problems.

Batteries die quickly. Keep a spare, somewhere warm.

Don't breath on the lens (or LCD if you can avoid it) as the condensation causes problems.

Biggest problem is when you bring the cold camera back inside - condensation forms all over it if you aren't careful.

This is easily fixed though - keep the camera in a large ziploc bag and don't open it for a couple of hours until it warms up to room temp.
