I was mainly trying to see how this lightweight setup would handle a lens the size of the 300. Now I know it will handle anything below that with ease.
I'm sure you do...and if you want to see a grown man cry like a little girl you'll post a pic of it

How you doin'?

I certainly wouldn't want to be responsible for any grown man crying so I will just leave you with a shot taken by my wife recently at Brazos Bend SP of my wildlife rig.

Let your imagination be your guide.

Jim what do you think of the BH-40, not that I'm looking to buy as I already have the BH-55 (which works nicely with the Sidekick). Just curious what your thoughts are cause when the BH-40 was "in the works" a lot of people were anticipating it but frankly when they finally released the specs I was a bit underwhelmed considering the competition at that price level.

I believe I was one of those that questioned the specs since I have the BH-55 too. That is the reason I took it out today to see how it would handle a large lens and Sidekick combo. I'm really impressed with this ballhead and it is definitely a conservative estimate on it's holding ability, 18#.

The knobs are three different shapes so it is easy to adjust, while keeping your eye on your subject, and not have to worry about loosening or tightening the wrong thing. The lightweight combination of this ballhead and the Gitzo 1227 make it a dream to carry.

My BH-55 resides on my G1325, which is a good match for it, and allows me to use it with a Sidekick and my 500. Much lighter combo with more versatility than the full Wimberley I had.
