Dallas or FW Zoo

I like both Dallas and Fort Worth for different reasons. I love the Wilds of Africa exhibit at the Dallas Zoo, as well as the children's zoo and most of the bird exhibits there. I love Fort Worth for the big cats and the primates. Each has its own qualities. Dallas is closer to me so I go there much more often. I have to say that the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler is better than both of the others if you are looking at size, cleanliness, and camera-friendliness. It doesn't have as many animals, but the ones that are there are well cared for, the habitats look very natural, and the surrounding scenery is beautiful.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

The African Safari monorail tour at the Dallas Zoo is NOT photgrapher friendly.

The herpatarium in FW is cool (a/c in the summer!), but also not real good for photography.

I love the Texas section because you can get in real close with some of the animals... even go into the aviary where the Roseate Spoonbills are. They also have a barn owl show that shows a beautiful girl hunting.

If you are into fish try out Caldwell Zoo in Tyler. They have an African cichlid tank that will astound you.
San Antonio Zoo is a great zoo too. A bit older but they have alot of places you can get upclose for some great shots. They have a grizzly bear that is a ham for the camera.
The small aquarium is worth going to just for Frontosas and Discus tanks. My wife couldn't get me out of there!
