I have been asked if photographers in the DFW area would be interested in taking, and then submitting photos of this event in a juried competition. The details have not been worked out yet, but I was wondering if this would be of interest to any of us ??
If you vote Maybe, perhaps you could say what conditions would make you a definite Yes ?

Oh heck, this is a poll, I didn't vote the first time. I'd like to know some more details on this with one being when and where. I wouldn't expect to win but if I did, what would the prize be?

I voted yes, but like the other it would depend on the details and if I was available to do it. Sounds like fun just the same.

As I said, the details are not worked out yet, and even the OK to go ahead with the project needs approval. But, I am trying to get a feel for what folks would like to see as far as prizes, access, etc.
This is just a preliminary poll, and if it comes to fruition then I can post the details, etc.

OK can we get a bit more detail about this?
Are we talking just genereal crowd shots, driving out onto the course and catching the runners at various points; working the finish line area?
Or are we talking about documenting every runner as they meet a certain point in the race?
See one person say can't shoot the whole running crew say at the 1/2 way point and the finish line since many people just reach the 1/2 point when the winners are crossing the finish line.
The rabbits are moving at sub 6 minute miles or about 10-11mph or about 13-15 ft per second and you do not want to intefere with them so you need a decent zoom to cover them over a given area if you are trying to do a chest head shot or even a deeper zoom to get a full body shot coming straight at you. Usually you can set up along the course and have the feal of what you need to do to get a shot-usually involves little running but a lot of fast thinking. Digital is great for this since you can pop in cards to handle 100+ shots without a break to change film.
If people want to try their hand at another marathon Dallas has the White Rock Marathon next month which allows some great lake backgrounds in the shots.
I would pick several categories, crowd, individual, moment of breaking (in Boston it is HeartBreak Hill, at Dallas it is the hill leaving the lakeshore back towards town-around 21 miles to 22 mile area, not sure where the spot is in Ft Worth). What about the runner who documents their own run? Some cameras are so light and if they have a helper along the way to give them moral support and help in case they need help with the camera could be an interesting option. One fact is that most people that Run the Dallas and Ft Worth Marathons do not finish them.
I can proudly say that back many moons ago I did finish the Dallas White Rock Marathon, and I couldn't walk right for a couple weeks after that!

So far I believe they would like some PJ style or Art style shots.
I am definitely not interested in shooting all the runners.
Everyones comments will be kept in confidence, and if this project comes to fruition I'll post all the details.

I voted a definite yes, making the assumption that I would be available that day.. if not, obviously all bets are off. :)
