For clarification, this is for professional photo sessions...

Just got off the phone with the woman responsible. She said that the date of the shoot needs to be scheduled in advance, and the photographer needs to come to the convention center personally to book the date and time, sign a contract, and pay the fee, which is $75/hr. Her number is 817-392-2508.

Commercial shoot?

The DFW Strobist group was there in June with a dozen photographers and several models, security guards came through several times and except for chasing the models out of the water never asked for a permit or mentioned the need for one.

Do I owe the city some money?

I'm just relaying the information that I obtained. Whether a commercial photographer chooses to abide by the rules is between him and the convention center.

Interesting, I've shot engagement photos there before and it honestly never even occured to me that a public place in the middle of downtown would require a permit. Good to know!

I think this is something relatively new. Technically, the WG is a city park. It could have something to do with wanting to cover their behinds in case someone gets hurt and threatens to sue. They've been down that road once already.

Do you have the woman's name, or office she works in? I'd like to file the number for reference in case a client asks.

Fort Worth Convention Center. Direct line: 817-392-2508. She has an accent and talks fast so I couldn't understand her name when she told me. I wish some people would understand that this is Texas so they need to slow down. LOL
