Lake Grapevine - Ideas - 11-12-2009, 03:26 PM

I am shooting my very first Engagement session Saturday and the happy couple suggested Lake Grapevine, which should be amazing!

One problem, though.. I have never been to Lake Grapevine and I'm not too terribly familiar with it. Does anyone have suggestions for a particular area of Lake Grapevine that would be good for an e-session?

There's a cool park on the Grapevine side not far from the Gaylord. I think it's called Katie's Woods. It's a short hike through the woods to the lake and some cool rocks at the shore. There are also marinas, which are private property but you might be able to shoot from the park to use one as a backdrop.

Do you or they have a boat of any kind? I've been dreaming up ways to use my kayak during an engagement shoot (or trash the dress session), but haven't taken any lakeside since I bought the thing.

There is an area on the south side of the lake where I often go bike riding. The trail is called horseshoe. I think the park is called Oak Grove. There are lots of trails along the shore and through the woods. You'd have to scout it to see if you find what you're looking for.

There are entrances at both ends. This google link is for the north end, were there are some private boat slips. The road that shows in the map is actually gated off. No driving. Only foot and bike traffic.

^ And apparently on the Horseshoe Triail, you've got to watch out for mountain bikers!

I shoot at Rockledge Park quite a bit. It's the one down by the Gaylord. It makes for great pictures. I was there recently though and the water was up high so there wasn't much beach area to be able to access the rocks as much as I have in the past.

There is a $5 entry per car.

Here is one shoot there.
