It's gorgeous there right now. Have done 2 shoots there in the last two weeks. Happy results both times.

Thanks Mandy
We were planning to drive over (about 125 miles) this morning, but we were fogged in and weather forcast said cloudy all day. So I guess we will try next weekend. Hope the colors last.
Thanks again
Pat

Thanks all for the update. I'm planning a trip to Dallas in the next week or two and wanted to go there if the fall colors were in.

Here are the rules posted on the Web site: http://www.fwbg.org/photos.htm

I didn't think you could take a tripod, but didn't see a rule specifically prohibiting it. Casual, family photography is encouraged and welcomed there.

Note that professionals must not only pay a permit fee each time they shoot there, but also schedule it with the staff. I assisted with a professional shoot on Sunday in the Japanese Gardens, and one of the security guys said that the main reason for the scheduling/permit isn't to collect money but help ensure professional photogs aren't tripping over each other. He said that morning there were dozens of photogs who all claimed not to be pros. Wonder how many were not being truthful?

Last Sunday morning there was a big group from the Fort Worth Camera Club, I believe. They were shooting the garden fall colors. There was one professional shooting a couple (clearly distinguished by off camera flash on lighstand and tag-alongs) Seems still some time for colors to stay there.

You parked next to us, didn't you? I thought I recognized you and my old camera bag.

The guard was referring to people in other parts of the gardens who were taking photos of people, sometimes large groups all dressed similarly.

Hey Todd, I'm so sorry I didn't get to say hello to you. My bad.
Yes, your old camera bag is going strong.

Unless you go on a work day, I would not take a tripod. It's just too busy and people are everywhere. Monopod will work though if you have to have it. But... it's sunny and there should be plenty of light so you shouldn't need a tripod unless you're trying to take photos of yourself... or you're shooting at F22 at ISO 100.
