Old Drive-In Photos? - 12-05-2009, 12:38 PM

I have seen old photos of a few of the Drive-In movie theaters in the Fort Worth area, but the one I am looking for (and, I have discovered, quite a lot of other people are looking for as well) is the old Westerner Drive-In theater on the edge of River Oaks. My Mom used to work there in the ticket booth so my sister and I would get in free at the River Oaks Theater! Needless to say, the RO Theater is long gone as well.

Now the "Cowtown Drive-in" was at RiverOaks and Jacksboro Highway. Could that be what you want. I don't recall another one being on River Oaks. I do recall one called the Westerner, but don't recall where it was. Unless it was the one near Azle on Hwy 199.
Seems like traces of the Cowtown might still be there.

Search the rest of the site. Maybe the Westerner is buried in there somewhere.

Edited to add...There used to be a Drive-in near the West end of Camp Bowie at AltaMesa(???), if I remember my street names correctly. That may have been called the Westerner. ???????
I was in Ft Worth in 1960-62 when they all were still in their HeyDay. And I went nearly every one of them, at one time or another, with my girlfriend.(now my Wife) But that was a looong time ago to remember all of their names.

I believe the one you're thinking about (on Hiway 199 on the way to Azle) was the Corral. The Westerner was located on Hiway 183 (River Oaks Blvd.) and Sam Calloway Road (very near the bridge over the Trinity river).

Ok. That was where the 7-11 and business complex is now. My memory of that one is pretty vague. I guess we didn't go there very often. I will keep you in mind if I ever come across anything on it.
