Need help with 50D users and RAW files - 01-09-2010, 06:06 PM

Hi everyone,

I am in need of some help. I recently took about 135 portraits that I will be making a composite image (head shots with names). I took the first nine with a 50D, then realized that I couldn't do anything with the RAW files. I tried my usual process (that I use with the 1D MarkII). Photoshop said it was the wrong file type. Yada, Yada, Yada...I took the rest of the pictures with my 1D MKII and all is well.

The problem is that I need to process the nine images to get a jpg file that I can run through the greenscreen software, and complete this project.

I have tried going to Canon USA and downloading codec6.something, still throwing up on the files. I use PS CS3.

Can anyone offer up any suggestions or offer up a quick conversion from RAW to jpg for me? I'll buy you a beer...or something softer if that's you preference.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

I don't believe you can use CS3 for 50D RAW files. You must upgrade to CS4 or use the DPP software that came with the camera.

I had the same issue and had to load the latest version of DPP that comes with the 50D.

You can convert the raw files to DNG format using Adobe's DNG Converter, then you'll be good to go. You will lose nothing in the conversion, and it's the simplest way to go.

Thanks, Mark, but just knowing that I've "paid forward" all the help I receive here is enough.
