Exclamation Looking For Locations : Grunge - 01-30-2010, 12:44 AM

Hello! I'm posting to see if I can find any places that are SAFE to shoot at with a "grungy" look to them. I'm looking to do narrative photography, creative portraits and fashion photography.

I'm based in Grand Prairie, so driving far isn't a great idea. However any input would be appreciated!

Thanks to all who reply in advanced!

Take 360 down to where Trader's Village is, there's a lot of kind of "run down" buildings around there. Maybe something around that shopping center where the Dillards outlet used to be? I can't remember the cross road, but it's in that area around Trader's Village. Also, on the other side of 360, where the GM plant is, there might be some opportunities over there, too.

Ok, just looked it up on the map. Would be 360 and Pioneer Pkwy, Mayfield, and Arkansas. I think the shopping center is on Pioneer.

Didnt they knock all of that down and rebuild it in hopes of renting it out? The old shopping mall? I believe it was a hazard and they knocked it all down and rebuilt it, but I'll stop by there.

I haven't been by there in a while, so they may have! If they did, I'm sorry!

The whole Forum 303 mall site is gone and now it's warehouses.

Like I said, sorry. I haven't been by there in several months, and the last time I was I didn't look to see what's there!

Not far off of I-30, at Westmoreland, there were some buildings around there that seemed a little rundown. You might have to follow Westmoreland around to Canada Dr.

I have been finding tons of cool spots in the small towns north of Dallas (i.e. prosper and others)

there is a run down old meat packing plant in downtown ft worth near the stock yards......the front steps are in good shape and the trees around it are all dead and over grown. i would NOT recommend going onto the property itself but there is a lot of the surrounding property that isnt behind the fence and it is really grungy looking and great for those kind of photos. its the old swift armor plant. i did one on the steps with a local band:

+1 - just drive around small towns in Collin County and you'll find what you're looking for. Here is an example from today.

There are all kinds of places, you just have to be willing to look for them. Off 360, there are lots of warehouses and older buildings, lots of furniture stores (near Rooms to go outlet) Try walking around there, just be very careful. It's not the best part of town.
See what downtown Grand Prairie has to offer as well.

Yeah thats the point, I just didn't want to be anywhere that would be unsafe to shoot in since I don't have anyone that can walk around with me to be all protective.

Three little letters: C.H.L.

I never go on location without my "li'l friend" at my side. Still, that does me no good if I'm not attentive and aware. Not a bad idea to have an extra pair of eyes.
