Thumbs up Rollerskating. No... really! - 02-22-2010, 09:30 PM

I had (well, I was paid) to photograph a birthday party on Sunday at Interskate in Lewisville. I have not been to a skating rink in about 30 years. Let me tell you... they still smell like a wet ashtray!

Anyway, here was some of the fun from that shoot.

I hope you enjoy... they did!

So I'm guessing the one in white was the birthday boy? Usually the lighting in those places is notoriously bad. How did you compensate?

With a flash and Lucis Art or something similiar.

We had my son's party at a rink in December with his school classmates (he's in the first grade) at Skatetown in Grapevine. That one is less wet ashtray and more like pure teen angst/floor polish. The rink offered blades, but still had the nasty four-wheeled skates worn by 300 people before you .

There are two rinks in Haltom City, north of Fort Worth, where I live. Both are old and definitely throwbacks. I wouldn't want to be at either one at nght!

None of these kids were with the birthday party... I just thought it would cool to shoot them racing. And the PP is Topaz Adjust plus Topaz Detail.

Fun shots. I used to love going to the roller rink when I was a kid.

Thanks for the PP info, Wil. I'm using the trial version of adjust right now and really like it. And for the price I'll probably by the full version soon.

BTW, I still have my white roller skates from the 9th grade with black laces and wheels and my red and black checkerboard metal case to carry them in! I was a hardcore skater in the late 70s and can still do some pretty cool moves.
