6 shock diamonds...
Sitting in a 19,000 lb combat ready aircraft, with 25,000 lbs of thrust...
I've always said it must be close to orgasmic to light one of those off...
From brake release to 60,000 feet in 92 seconds...
<sigh>

That's a nice shot, only one comment. If you could somehow photoshop some more sky in front of the aircraft it would be a lot more appealing to the eye. Kind of has that "oh crap, were going to hit the border of the picture" feeling. Other than that C&C that you didn't ask for, it's a keeper. Nice Job!

6 shock diamonds...
Years ago I photographed ( high speed 16mm camera ) an F16 that was chained down, a static test. I gave up counting the shock diamonds after I reached 20+. It was interesting, I had the camera on the fringe of the shock cone. Standing beside it was ok, standing behind the camera and it felt like all of my organs were vibrating! But it was fun! By the way, good photo. | | | |

That is what I have always heard them called, an engineer gave me an explanation of them years ago of which I have forgotten most of it. Did a search and found this: http://www.galleryoffluidmechanics.c...ks/sd_phys.htm
Should answer your questions.
