Air Power Expo - 03-05-2010, 12:14 AM

Anyone know anything about this airshow coming up at NAS/JRB in Fort Worth? The website doesn't have much information. I'd like to know what kind of flight demonstrations will be there.

I just checked the schedules for the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds, neither will be there. The Blue Angles will be there in 2011. wnet to thier faq's section looks like you'll have to leave large camera bags at home.

What NOT to bring to the show?

Coolers or Backpacks are not permitted along with outside food and drink. Concession stands will be open. Skateboards, bicycles, scooters, inline skates and weapons of any kind are prohibited. Weapons or projectile firing weapons to include, but are not limited to, firearms, knives, air rifles/pistols, BB guns, cross bows, paintball guns and blunt objects. Any weapons or projectile firing weapons brought to the show will be confiscated and the owner will be asked to leave the Naval Air Station. All alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia, medications not belonging to individual and pyrotechnics of any kind, flamable liquids of any kinds are prohibited.

I'll have to take issue with the "no large camera bags". It's never been a problem in the past.
They limit food because of concessionaire considerations. I've seen diaper bags big enough to carry all my gear and two chairs in !

From experience, the show will have lots of ground displays, the usual small aircraft acts, and some military fly bys. They usually have a ground fire demonstration with lots of fire, explosions, etc. It's well worth the cost (free) although you MAY have to pay for parking, but I'll be surprised.

Lockheed will have an F16 flight airshow. Likely be an F35 on display, and some big aircraft flow overs.

Oh this is just the funnest time of year. I can't tell you how many 911 calls we get about how 'close' to highway 199 the planes are flying. One guy last year actually insisted that I transfer him to the air base so that he could file a formal complaint because 'he knew they were breaking the law'... even with their government clearance and everything...

I was talking more about the water ... it smells a little like dead fish and despair, mixed with a slight tinge of jet fuel. Strangely, I prefer to kayak there because instead of yahoos in speedboats (Lake Grapevine, Lewisville Lake) there are kindly fisherpeople in slow-moving bass boats. It's also easily accessible from my house.

Off-topic, if anyone wants to photograph wildlife, Lake Grapevine is a good place. Three or four times I went last summer, there were people having sex in the water and on picnic tables.

Thanks. Guess I'll make the drive out there.

Yeah! Thats what I was talking about too. If you go to the boat launch on Casino Beach there is a sign that says "DONT EAT THE FISH - HIGH LEVELS OF PHENOFLOUROBLOUAFLUBBERCARBONS"

Thanks for the heads up on this airshow. I didn't know anything about it. It's not on the list at airshow.com. Maybe I'll try and drive up for this one.

Speaking of the "not allowed" list, the one for the Aerospace and Arizona Days in Tucson is ridiculous. No chairs, no bags of any kind except diapers bags, and no fluids (bottled water, etc.) unless you have an infant. They say it's for safety reasons. Nothing unsafe at all about limited fluid intake when spending the day on an airport ramp in the desert, I guess...

The restrictions being placed on the American public in the interest of "safety" have gotten totally out of hand. Where will it end?
