OK. First off thanks to all who attended. I hope that you got as much out of the day as I did. Second, big thanks to both Jim & Paul for helping me out. I certainly cannot do this alone and they really made the day go very smoothly. Finally thanks to Alexis, Ally and Marilyn for all the excellent work they did!
I did butt in line and make a few images myself. Here's one I processed...

Scott -
Just made it home, thanks again for offering this type of seminar. It's very beneficial to review some basics and see how other folks think about lighting. Of course having beautiful models to photograph makes the whole experience just as wonderful too. I received Ally's email address, does Marilyn have an email address ? I'd like to give both of the ladies the courtesy of seeing the images I took before posting on the web.
Thanks.

Well I haven't barely even got my photo's downloaded yet. I did want to post one before going to bed, even though I really shouldn't.
My monitor profile from my Spyder got deleted somehow when I added a second monitor, so I haven't had time to recalibrate.
I made no color correction to this image, so hopefully the Tint looks right to you guys. It looks a slight bit Magenta to me, but I was hesitant to adjust it, since my monitor needs calibration.
So all I did was clone out a couple stray hairs, very mild kodak digital gem, and some USM.

I guess it wouldn't be fair if I didn't post a shot of both models.

Jim, these look good. They don't have any really noticible color casts, at least not that I can really detect.

This is not much of a photograph, but it does show to those who were not in attendance what the setup was like.

Tom, here is the result of the one I was taking in the picture above. It was the set where I had accidently opened my aperture a stop and got them a little hot.

Steve, a little hot but overall a nice picture.
Tom, I see from your picture that the setup was a little different for you guys on Sunday than we had on Saturday. We had a key light softbox, a fill light umbrella, and a hair light softbox shooting the low key stuff. It looks like you had a key light softbox and fill from both a softbox and a beauty dish with no hair light. Yet in Steve's picture it looks like there's a hair light on the subject. I'm soooooo confused.

John, we had a hairlight on all of the sets we did yesterday (slightly above the photo posted of the setup).
Thanks again Scott for such an informative class. I learned a ton about lighting (and the equipment I hope Santa will be bringing me).

Not really familiar with RAW files. I have figured how to bring it down some.
How are you guys attaching your photos?

We did set things up a bit different.
We moved the Key light to the opposite side. So the Strip light (used for the hair light on day 1's set), is actually the key light. We used the larger softbox for fill, and the beauty dish is actually being used as fill on the key light side for people trying to shoot full length.
The hair light is behind the seamless paper peaking over the top of the set. We used a 20 degree grid and barndoors. We tried to use a boom, but it didn't feel sturdy enough. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
