My son is in the Air Force and he took this pic of these fighter planes while over Germany a few weeks ago. He is a boom operator and guides the boom to the planes below for refueling....

Many years ago I had the opportunity to sit (actually lie down) beside the "boomer" on a KC-135.
We were over Southern California, and I can tell you that the view was fantastic.
As I monitored the communications, I did not know the type of aircraft that we were going to refuel because they use tactical calls sings, etc.
When the "bird" approached it started out well outside our viewing angle, and you can only imagine my surprise when at 27,000 feet at 300+ mph and looking pretty much straight down, all of a sudden a B-2 bomber slides into your field of view about 30yds away You are looking directly into the cockpit, and could easily read the pilots name on his helmet. Literally an ungorgettable experience. I'll look in the archives and try to find some photos and scan them in.

Nice shot! Thanks for sharing

Our oldest brother was a Jet Engine Mechanic in the Air Force for 25+ years (Retired Now) and he has some great shots but they are all on film He was stationed all over the world and loved it! His family lived in Germany for quite some time.

He is on a KC-135 also. I am not sure if there is a glass panel there? But I am pretty sure that's the spot where the boom goes out if I remember correctly. I will ask him and find out and will double check on where he was at when he took this pic. He has been many places so far and it's hard to keep up with where all he has been.

Great shots.

In the first image the terrain doesn't look like Utah, it looks more like Germany. Great pic in any case. Thanks for sharing.

Some from the archives.... - 12-26-2005, 12:28 AM

Here are some from my days in the Marine Corps as a KC-130 Flight Engineer.

F4's over Puerto Rico and a CH-53 off the Virginia coast.... Old pics, bad scans, great memories!

Yeah, I have some old video with a KC-130 and about 8 Phantoms in tow. Some inverted formation work too. Man I used to love tanking them boys. Last USMC F4 squadron was out of Dallas...The Cowboys. Great guys, awesome drivers. We would take-off, pass 70,000 pounds of gas and be back on the ground in like 30 minutes! Loved it becuse you never had to drone around waiting for them, they were ALWAYS looking for gas!
