How Many Might Be Interested? - 11-21-2005, 02:22 PM

I am curious how many folks would be interested in a lighting workshop that would show deeper shadow lighting and possibly some pinup style sets.

If I were to put together one it would be next year sometime. My studio is too small for a lot of people so I would have to look around for one to rent.

Paul, I would definately be interested. I'd also like to see you explain your technique for light setup - e.g. what you look for in shadows, how you decide what ratio to use, when to use a strip light/softbox/beauty dish as a key/fill/hair light. Pictures with/without grids to see the difference, etc. Heck, I'd love a class that covers this without even having a model. Shoot your manequin bust and show the differences that various lights make and how their positioning and modifiers affect the shadows.

Hope that isn't too much to ask for.

Some of it I could do. I do not use a beauty dish and therefore do not have one to show but I could show a bit of how the grid on a softbox works compared to a softbox without one as well as how I meter and set up the lights.

My Mannequin bust requires too high a payment to pose for everyone LOL

Well then we'll just get Jake. We could also get Robert - I hear he doesn't mind posing in a wig.

I'd be interested as well... particularly in the setup (number/type of lights, modifiers, arrangements, etc) of the lights beforehand, to achieve specific looks/effects.

Maybe have a class (5-10 people) where everyone is involved in the actual setup of the lights, taking meter readings, switching out backgrounds and modifiers, etc. And then viewing the results on a large monitor to see the effect.

What sort of knowledge would you need before attending a class like this? Because I have NO lighting experience at all :)

Yeah, what Tony said. That's really what I'm after, I just didn't express it well.
