Anybody ever shot at the Amon Carter museum? - 04-25-2010, 10:57 PM

I'm doing senior shots next week. I thought about the Amon Carter museum. Anyone ever shot there? Also, any other ideas/places that would be cool to shoot? I'll have two seniors with me.

I assume you are aware that most museums do not allow photography inside.
Outside is a different matter. I've shot at the Kimbell and the Modern (outside) and recommend you do this on Monday when they are closed.
What sort of theme are you going for ?

Well Tom your off a bit, you can shoot in the Carter if you are shooting the art and sign a waiver but you are right that you can't do a "shoot of a model" in the museum itself. Don't forget the outdoor museum of all the old log houses just south of the museum a few miles.
Heck I bet you could shoot in the zoo.

No commercial shooting in the zoo, or technically in the log cabin village but If you don't carry equipment other than a camera bag you could slip by.

How about the botanical gardens ? Costs the same to get a permit as to enter the zoo or the village. Stockyards are fun. Downtown is fun. Trinity Park is fun. Is the shoot about the backgrounds or the seniors ??

Not really sure of the theme. I just got the call yesterday before I posted the message here. They are looking for something cool and different. So, that's why I thought of the museum. The only day that they can do it is tomorrow morning. So, that kind've limits me. Any ideas/suggestions?

Lots of fun things in the Stockyards. Light and subject is most important, but a nice setting can set a mood or offer opportunities for fun. Fort Worth is great for offering so much variety in such a relatively compact area. You could hit the Stockyards (genuine relic of the West), hit Sundance Square (urban), see pretty flowers (Botanic Gardens – make sure you buy the permit), use the exterior of the museums to great effect and then hang around the river.

Which museums do you recommend? I'm having them meet me at the gardens first.

The museums are all clustered in one area. Kimbell, Modern Art, Amon Carter, Cowgirl Hall of Fame. All in walking distance of one another. They are about 1.5 miles from the Botanic Gardens ( It's large so you should meet them at the rotunda at the top of the Rose Garden ) and about 4 miles from the stockyards.
For flowers use the garden, for wood fencing, r.r. tracks, etc. go to the stockyards.

if you go to my web page and click on weddings the first image was in the rose garden and the second was from the aforementioned rotunda.

I now notice that 1,2,6,7,8 all shot in the rose garden.
