Gaylord Texan - Grapevine, Tx.
This was some kind of difficult shooting. I don't know if I got any of them right. I picked out a few that caught my eye. Everything is either mono-colored or transparent, you either see thru it, have reflections off it, or there is no detail in the picture. Maybe the pros around here can give me some pointers.

I guess you wil have to wait on a pro because I think they look great! Was just talking to my wife about this last Saturday night and maybe getting some shots there (another place we haven't been to). How cold was it? Did you have any problems with the cold as far a camera operation? Will they let you use a tripod or monopod? | | | |

Hey Roy,
I'll try to answer your questions.
It's supposed to be 9 degrees F. It was cold. They give you a parka with a hood to wear. My body and un-covered head were OK, but my hands got pretty cold. If you have some gloves the still allow you to operate the camera, you should wear them.
I was in there about 20 minutes I think. I was with my wife and in-laws, so I was not there as a photographer to "get the shot". If you stay longer be prepared for the cold.
My camera didn't present any problem at all. My external flash batteries kept giving out, but I don't know if it was because of the cold or the fact that I have used them a few times before, and they were probably used up. It was not fun stopping and changing them out. Wish I had gone in with fresh ones.
I carried my tripod in and no one said a thing. I didn't use it, but probably should have a few times. Monopod might be the ticket.
We were there Sunday afternoon, so it was pretty crowded, kids running around everywhere, which is why I just carried the tripod.
If you have a WA lens, it would be good. Everything is close, and you have trouble sometimes backing up enough to compose. The aisles are pretty narrow.
hope this helps.

Howdy Jerry,
What's all this about not getting any good shots, I think the ones you have captured turned out very nice!! I can see what you are talking about if they didn't have any coloration in them, the details could be lost in the background.
Very nicely done, thanks for Scouting this out for everyone!!

Jerry, great shots of the ice display. It looks like it would be a challenge. Is the display in the convention center or the atrium? I would think the convention center in order to regulate the temperature. I know someone's asked this but I hadn't seen an answer.

Hey Bob,
Just noticed your question.
The ICE is in the convention center, and it was hard to tell, but it looked like they put together a tent inside the CC as a very large walk in cooler.
BTW: if you self park, you get a free parking pass when you buy your ticket. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
