Probably prompt the photo police to come out and claim it's a danger to national security or something.

TV stations were all down there yesterday since they put up the first piece. Heading over there in a few minutes to try to find the best place to document the main arch and then the cables from.

Not many suspension (?) bridges built any more so I guess I will be one of the few to do this.

Well went over to shoot the bridge this morning- you can walk on the old Bridge that runs into Singleton that is right next to the new one being built. Had over a hundred cars and maybe a dozen people on bikes go past me and not one asked what I was doing. They have all the pieces on the ground for the tower and looks like they will put the other large footing-first piece up Tuesday- they actually had a crew working on the site today doing some arc welding and dozer work at the site.

Singleton for about the first two blocks from the river has a bunch of buildings painted in bright colors-greens-reds-blues-purples-yellows and a few other colors-kind of cool. Could possible be a nice backdrop for an early morning shoot (several of the buildings are empty also).

So they are starting the tower, they have part of the deck up and are hanging some of the canterlevered pieces that will hold the roadbed up so coming along pretty smooth. I was shooting for over 20 minutes along the bridge and no one bothered me at all.

Went into the Design District and saw so many spaces for lease it was suprising.

OK I'll try to explain what you are seeing there. Of course the white piece going kinda straight up is part of the 400 ft arch. The boxish looking piece that is coming towards you and off in the distance away is the support box that the deck is going to be attached to. You can see part of the deck arms on the far end that are attached already. The gray towers holding that box looking piece up will be removed after all is attached and connected to the arch. ( About a year or so from now which will allow the deck to be suspended over the river.

I work in Fountain Place and the view out my window is the bridge construction. :) Although the pictures won't be great quality since I have to zoom in so high and my camera is not a high-end camera, I still take one pic a day so I can document the progress.

I agree. I don't understand why they didn't re-develop the area first. I've spent a lot of time down there walking the levees for pictures. It's horribly neglected, run-down and nearly vacant-looking. People will be all excited to drive on this new bridge, and what awaits them at the other end is unsafe and an absolute embarrasment.

Well they did rebuild the roadway on Singleton but the business' along that road are pretty much industrial or run down commercial and it's been that way for 30+ years and this "bridge" ain't going to perform a miracle to change it.

They did paint a bunch of buildings in bright colors for about 1/2 mile along Singleton that makes an interesting background but that's about it.

A quick drive-by shots that first night of illumination.
Taken on Continental St approach and bridge plus Wycliff Bridge. The hour was late and I did not want to tarry. High ISO? Why of course!

I braved the cold, the piles of dirt, the cars on Commerce and Continental to get some shots last night... it was a lot of trouble but worth it to see something you've been following since the first piece of steel for the arch was put in place. :)
