Cool Tossing an idea out- Photo Shoot at White Rock on 7-10 - 06-07-2010, 02:45 PM

Wonder if we put a call out for a TPF shoot at White Rock Lake (on the east side by Winfry Point) on Model Mayhem and maybe some other places on 7-10-10 (saturday) from 5:30 till post sunset if we would get a decent response on both shooters and models. There is a water fountain nearby, several types of backgrounds with the full lake, Pelican Bay and maybe even a sailboat or two since the main sailclub is nearby on that side of the lake along with the Winfrey point Clubhouse. If we put out the call now it would give time for the word to get out to hopefully have a nice turnout.

So just wondering if people would be interested.

If we can pull this one off we can maybe do one every couple months-of course vary the location and times depending on the seasons. Maybe in the Fall do some with people in costumes in the Downtown/Deep Ellum area.

I'd be happy to go and shoot. Sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

I'll bring this up at the DFW TPF luncheon tommorrow at the Diner and see what sort of feed back I get there.

If anyone has connections to maybe get a makeup person to join us for "experience" or a reasonable fee maybe the shooters could pony up a few $$'s each to pay for that.(talking less than $10 each)

I've got a young make up artist who needs the experience and to build a portfolio.

I think your biggest challenge is keeping the models looking "fresh". Heat on a July 10th day is going to be overwhelming, and it won't take long before the model is tired/sweating/makeup running/hair falling, etc. I'd definately have a backup location planned because it is likely to be 95+

I was thinking more along the lines of swimwear/sportswear but yes we would need to supply some cold water for them and there is plenty of shade in the area while trying the rent out the Winfry Point Clubhouse would probably not be feasable in this short of a time frame and I believe it is over $250 plus paying $30+ an hour each for police on site and I'm not sure if it is even cooled (have not been in it for years now).

There also is a restroom nearby, I'll check to see if it is open now or not because I believe the sports field there is under renovation, where they can do clothing changes if they wish.

So I'll go look over the area this afternoon and maybe post a few shots for people unfamiliar with the area if the rain holds off.

I ran over to the lake and took a few shots of the area
Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake Photo Shoot 7-10-10 Photo Gallery by pgkps at pbase.com
Tried to explain what the shots were for and what was in them. That wall of Bamboo which is trimmed very flush with the road may be a fantastic background to do a sunset shot or too with the sun lighting the scene-faces kinda of WSW.

I poked around Model Mayhem and didn't see anything going on in Dallas that day and if anyone knows of another place to advertise for models please feel free to do so or if you know of someone who would like to model for us.

While I was out there Match.com corporate office, I guess or it could have been a Match.com Event, had the Winfrey Point Clubhouse booked and they had 2 Dallas Police Officers in uniform hired to cover the facilities (they actually came over and asked what I was doing and I said that I was just grabbing a couple shots of the building and they said that was fine with them). No one from the event asked me anything but I was only there by the building for a few minutes.

The distance from the "photographers" parking lot to the dock at Pelican Bay is maybe 1/2 mile along the road/bike trail and fairly level. There is quite a bit at Pelican Bay to shoot around and it is quite shady and I would think that we would then go from there towards the lake just below the Clubhouse to catch the sunset lighting. The Marina is farther up the lake than I thought (past the Bath House Cultural Center maybe 1.5 miles away) and is just at the edge of a couple of the shots but if anyone knows of someone with a sailboat who would like to be in the background they would be very welcome to sail out that afternoon.

So the more participation that we get the better the event can be.

Any other ideas on how to make this better?

I plan to post this event up on Model Mayhem this Saturday.

Where Professional Models Meet Model Photographers - ModelMayhem
Put up the Model Mayhem Casting Call so will wait and see what comes of it. As models confirm I will put up their MM#'s here. (as we all know this doesn't mean that they will show up but since it is a Saturday afternoon and not a holiday weekend hopefully most will attend).

(I couldn't figure out how to include the makeup and hair people without also including photographers so we may have some non-TPF members there shooting- hopefully they will have DSLR's at least to shoot with).
