BTW Cap....what is yours?

And back to the original Question!........
I think they are! May be because of the late warm weather. More of the trees seem to be changing at the same time this year.
Still not as pretty as up in the colder climates though. The colors here aren't as bright and colorful as in the Northeast for example. The reds and yellows especially have a more brown cast here.

Here's one from October 2000, near my brothers home in Pennsylvania. An especially colorful year. The rain and frost did a nice job that year.

Definitely more color in Texas this year than last. Cold, dry weather is what's needed and although it stayed warm pretty late into the fall things have been dry so now that it's cooled off we're getting some color (even down here in Houston). If you'll recall last year we got tons of rain in November, I think it rained almost every day for 2-3 weeks straight.

Bout As Good As It Gets In Texas - 12-01-2005, 11:56 PM

This lineup is about as much a color mixture as one will ever find in this part of Texas. When you compare it with the shot Paul posted, you can see his point about our brightest colors always being slightly duller.

I took a picture of yellow leafed tree in Legacy Park the other day that to the naked eye looked brilliant. The light was great; I had my best "L" glass; but the results on the monitor were not nearly what my eye had seen, and pp would not make the colors pop.

Thanks Kieth. It's a golf course alright. What's that one just north of Benbrook dam? I think it's called Pecan Valley and a public course. Right in my backyard practically and first time to go there. I think there's more brillant colors this fall but you have to look for it. Got a few decent shots there and nobody ask me to leave but I wasn't actually on the course. Does it matter if it's a public course? Better check into that I guess.

Thanks Bear. It wasn't a planned thing. Just looked thru the viewfinder and said to self...."Color!", press shutter and move on. Must of got lucky with that one.

Hogleg, you sure somebody didn't bump up the saturation on that photo in Pennsylvania? Just kidding, I've only seen that kind of color in photos but that's because I've never been up there. Sure is colorful!

OK to get the deep reds and yellows you need cold weather and we have been blessed with several mornings below freezing lately. Noticed my red oaks are showing more color than last week just because of a few cold mornings. Usually this time of year we may get a short quick freeze around Turkey day but not multiple days with freezing temps. Average low this time of year is around 40 degrees and that isn't low enough to really bring the colors out. Now you say well why don't we have color around Christmas since by then it is cold enough, well by then most of the leaves are gone! Really by now we should have fewer leaves on the trees, don't know why they are holding on so well even in these high winds.

Now if Amarillo had a nice forest there would be great color up their every year because of their cold temps-heck I think they have been in the low teens a couple time already but alas they don't have a nice hardwood forest up there. Maybe someone could plant one and we could check it out in 30 years or so.
