Arrow Family/Baby Session Opp! - 06-19-2010, 06:26 PM

I live in SW Fort Worth and had my first baby 8 weeks ago. We haven't had a chance to get our pictures taken. I am still learning, so I would like to see about maybe getting one of you guys to do it :). I am interested in indoor and outdoor settings with some of him (the new baby) and also some with the new family of 3. Please keep in mind that with a new baby, we have a limited budget.

Anyone interested in helping a fellow photography lover out? If so, please let me know your prices and availability.

TIA!

Okay, I can't keep this to myself. I totally get being on a budget, we certainly aren't rolling in cash ourselves, but I think to reach out to a group of photographers saying you have a small budget (and not specifying how much and not saying you're willing to do a trade and share your portfolio, or whatever) is kind of an insult, IMO. Being a photographer makes me THAT much more willing to pay good money for photos. If you really don't have the money to invest (and there are plenty of people out there with very reasonable prices, such as myself) then why don't you offer a trade or something, instead? I know you just had a baby, but you could say "well, in a month or two I'd be happy to shoot photos for you, here's my portfolio." It just REALLY comes off the wrong way to me.

Then delete the thread, or dont read it. I apologize for being so forward, but your response bothers me more than hers.

IMO, This forum isn't just for professionals.

There are always non-professional photography-lovers (like me), who never get charged to take pics (because we aren't good/experienced enough) BUT would treasure a chance to have some practices that I otherwise won't be able to get (e.g. I don't have friends around having a new born baby)....OR maybe someone who is new and is still building his/her portfolios would like this opportunity...

In TPF, I think we have a variety of viewers here (maybe, yes, majority of you guys are paid professional photographers who do this for a living), but I guess it's almost impossible for a thread author to post something that can target to all audiences, or to please everyone.

I would definitely be interested if I live much more closer to SW Fort Worth.

I somewhat agree with Brandi, I too find it a bit alarming that a fellow photog would post something like that here, for a minute there it sounded like an ad from Craigslist.

Nothing personal Elese, it's just that the TPF gods have always reminded us to value our time and skills. So if we are going to ask any favors then we must offer something of value in return or have done/contributed something in the past.

Maybe the wording is a bit off. How about stating you and your new baby are portfolio material perhaps?

If I knew you more I would gladly offer my limited skills, I guess our apprehension steams from the fact that we don't know you.

In no way was I trying to offend anyone! As I stated, I am new to photography, so I don't really have any services to offer for trade.

When posting it, my thought was to find a fellow amateur that would be interested and could build on their portfolio. I was actually trying to help other people out by helping me out, which is why I stated "limited budget"-not trying to waste the more established photographers time (I thought I was being considerate)-just that people who don't have a lot of experience would respond.

Again, I apologize for not saying the right words. Just wanted to give TPF members a chance before I went to a random photography studio.
