Dolly Parton-critiques welcome - 12-04-2005, 07:22 AM

I shot a VIP reception for the Dallas Summer Musicals "Curtain Call" event on Friday night. My job was to shoot photos of the major donors (and sometimes their spouses) with Dolly. It was a bit challenging to say the least. I won't go into details, but for starters, the 20 foot tall black drape you see here fell before I could even get my lights set up. Then one of my modeling lights went out. I won't even go into the problems I had with the media photographers.

Dolly was wonderful, and even though I'm not a huge fan, I was impressed by her demeanor. Man, she is a little bitty thing!

I'd love to hear comments ("center them in front of the tree" isn't one of them. I gave them marks, but they wouldn't stand on them. I had about 2 seconds to shoot each "donor" or couple with Dolly before the next came up.)

What a wonderful time you must have had. I am a country western music fan and do enjoy her singing myself but have never had the pleasure of meeting her in person. I do remember several concerts of hers, one being with Kenny Rogers many many years ago in Houston where I grew up. Fans were coming up to the stage, handing her roses which she kept accepting them and never missed a note while singing.

She does seem to have a down to earth attitude about her with how she presents herself while on stage in concerts and on award shows on TV. Great to hear she is like that in person. Her success does not appear to have take over her way of being.

Curious though, how tall are you? I have noticed Dolly always has on at least 3" heels when on TV or in a concert. I am guessing she is about 4"10 to 5' tall?

Critque: Tell your model to not wear such bright fingernail polish, its very distracting.

Seriously, did you use your new Travelites on them?

I think its a good shot, especially since you described the probs you had. I know how rushed those things can be and NOBODY listens to the photographer. Everyone has their own agenda.

I would guess she's that tall, but that's not me in the photo.

Yes--what do you think? Other than a brand new modeling light going out, I was happy.

Looks good, they seem to have enough output. What all items did you purchase and what was the price?

She does look like a thing little thing. Sorry to hear about all the problem but you got a great shot anyway. I can't believe she has that bright red polish with a burgundy dress though.

The man in the photo looks kinda familiar. Who is he, if you can say, that is.
