"Riding Into The Sunset" - 12-04-2005, 04:45 PM

This bronze statue of Will Rogers "Riding into the Sunset" was done by Electra Waggoner Biggs in 1942. Amon G. Carter commissioned the artist to make this statue of his dear friend, who had recently died in a plane crash.

Bruce, I like the silhouette shot but one thing bothers me - it wasn't apparent to me what the hand is holding. Only after I saw the second shot did I realize the figure was riding a horse and the hand made sense. If you could have somehow gotten the horse silhouetted as well then that would have been spectacular.

Hey Bruce,

I guess I'm just too familiar with this work. I see the reins (SP?) and saddle horn in the first shot.

I can only wish I could have ever gotten a shot as good as the second one! I really like it. First rate! Super.

That can be hard to see if you are not used to being around horses.. ...but the saddle horn, the reins and the back of the saddle were noticeable I thought but I have been around horses alot also. Great shot.

I knew Mrs. Biggs all my life. She past away in 2001. She was a real Texas Lady. A repica of this statue is located at Texas Tech.

Wow, high praise coming from a master like you. Thanks; made my day.

You know what I miss most about the Sony 717: the live histogram. That's the thing the second shot of WR has -- a very nice histogram, a good exposure. Not entirely by accident, but almost, darn it.

Thanks, John.

Here's another variation based on your suggestion. I appreciate the feedback.
