Ok people. I need stress relief.
I'm heading to the zoo tomorrow. Who wants to join me? I'll even bribe ya'll with donuts (not really).
For any nikon shooters I may even offer up my nikon D50 hat (ever so sexy - it'll pull the girls!). But I find it funny that I shoot canon and wear nikon clothing ;)
let me know. I'll be there around 10 ish till aobut 2 or 3....

Would love to join you, L, but I have other commitments tomorrow.
Have fun for me, please... one of those commitments is lunch with my grandmother.

Gonna be a tad chilly. I've not been to the zoo in this kind of weather. How do the animals react to the cold ????

The primates were all inside and I didn't go inside to see 'em but all the other animals were out. Most of them seemed to enjoy the colder weather - heck, the cheetahs were sunning themselves in the grass rather than hiding in the shade of the bamboo. The lion cubs came out to play around 3:15 or so.
I had a GREAT time there today - I rented the 400 f2.8L IS from LightTEC. That is a monster lens but even after carrying it around all day I'm not sore. Also the 400 2.8 even does OK with a 2X teleconverter and it really shines with the 1.4X teleconverter. Maybe one day I'll come into a small fortune and be able to afford that lens.
If you want to take a look at the pictures I took I have some of them on my pbase gallery: http://www.pbase.com/engstrom/ft_worth_2005dec05

John, sure is day and night different on fine glass. What much you have to pay for renter fee? I suppose you do need proper mounting for monopod and tripod, do they rent that too?

I used my Bogen 680B monopod (kind of at its limit supporting the camera and lens) with it's Bogen 3229 head (WAAAAY past its limit with the camera and lens) but they do rent monopods (with no heads - just screw into the len's tripod mounting hole) for $5 a day. I like the convenience of the monopod - and it does allow you to get certain shots that a tripod won't - but in the future I think a tripod with either a sturdy ball head or a full Wimberly gimbal mount and a remote shutter release is the right answer. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
