I had a visitor this afternoon, not the best photo as it was shot through the glass door but I think this is a Cooper's Hawk.

Laurie, I think that's a very nice photo even without knowing it was shot through glass. I just have one question, where's his other talon?

Picture was shot through dirty mirrored glass but sometimes you just can't pose them.

Also, the beaks are just a bit different, the Cooper's Hawks has a sharp down turn.

I really like Hawks, mainly since they are easier to find than Eagles....Was that a Canon 2x? I have a Tamron 1.4 and it is very good. I have a friend who has hawks that come to their back yard and when they see them, they put chicken breast on a white pipe and the hawks swoop down and get it. Its usually late in the evening and it happns so fast, the one time I tried to get pictures I was unsuccessful. Thanks for posting.

I think I like the last one the best: dead on staring right back, but he doesn't seem aggressive, almost friendly. Thanks for sharing these. Wish one would land in my back yard.

Wonderful photograph .. where I live I see hawks all over .. whenever I see one they watch me (the car) come to a stop and I ever so gently try to open the door, but for some reason as soon as they see some movement .......... whooosh, they're gone .....
One of these days .....

Thanks everyone for the nice comments; the hawk stayed around for a while which I was surprised at. The last photo is also my favorite, poor guy just seemed so cold. The 2X is not a Canon one but a Kenko it works okay. Since these were through a double paned glass door I am surprised that they came out at all. But I knew if I opened the door he would have been gone.
