My first published photo - 12-07-2005, 07:36 PM

It was in the local paper (Plano Star Courier), but heck, I didn't think I'd ever have anything printed outside a local or online lab. I haven't seen it yet... but it's a standard "boring" portrait of my father in law that I took for him on Saturday. I tried some creative shots, but it's not what he was looking for. Oh well.. maybe later on. The reporter for his story said it's on the front page of the Plano Star Courier, but since I don't live in Plano, I don't have a copy of it--anyone in Plano see it? They don't have it on the online version. I don't even know if I got a photo credit. Anyway, that was a most unexpected surprise for me as he called me on Friday saying he needed a picture--by Sunday morning.

Here it is.. nothing amazing...but at least I finally had some practice and doing standard portraits.

Pretty darn good portrait Rozzie. The key light is in a nearly perfect position. The nose shadow is hidden in the smile line crease. It's just a tad hot on his forehead but the exposure looks great. Without some powder it's hard to knock down the shine. Good work on the glasses and lack of reflection but still getting catchlight in his eyes. Just a a touch of hairlight to separate his left side from the background could have been added for that perfect touch.

Overall an excellent effort!

I was about to say all the stuff Scott said, until I realized I never knew to look for all that in a picture.

In any case, scott has some really good comments about the details, and I'll just say that my impression is that this is a very good portrait.

You should be proud of the picture and be proud that it is being published. hope you find a copy of the newspaper.

WTG!

Rozzie, congrats on getting published and nice photo! I don't get the Star Courier but I'll keep an eye out to see if someone has yesterday's paper on their desk at work tomorrow.

It's about him being one of the few Democrats running for County Commissioner in a Collin County district... from what I gather :)
