Lightning on the 35E... - 09-13-2010, 01:01 AM

Traveling south from Denton on the 35E towards Dallas, I was listening to the SMU game where they were talking about lightning in the area. As I was headed that direction I saw one long, thin cloud formation on the horizon.

All of a sudden a bolt started at the top of the cloud and spiraled down looking like a big candy cane. That was enough for me and I pulled off the freeway, set my camera on the roof of my car and did some interval timing shots (about 5 seconds per shot). As the cloud spread out the bolts thinned but I did manage to get this one before packing it in and heading home...

That is awesome.
I was working, I tried to catch some of the lighting Sunday evening. Just couldn't get the timing on that Droid phone of mine to co-operate.

Pretty damn good!

Even better that the subject foreground is interesting.

Anyone else notice the second lightning strike at the very end of the light trails from the cars?

Wow, looks like the bolt is reaching out towards the cars. Fantastic shot! Thanks for the inspiration.
